Podcasts for mediation career-building

A couple of weeks ago one of the mediators I’m currently mentoring asked me what podcasts I subscribe and listen to. While my podcast listening list changes depending on my focus interests during a given period, a few tend to stand the test of time. The following are some of those and often on my recommended list for mediation marketing and learning:
Duct Tape Marketing Radio - An excellent weekly marketing podcast from John Jantsch, typically running about 25 minutes.
Blogging and Beyond - Hosted by the BlogSquad’s Denise Wakeman and Patsi Krakoff. Currently on hiatus for a few months but there are tons of archived podcasts worth your time, each typically running about 30 minutes. [Read more]
Everyone thinks they’re a mediator

Over my more than a decade in full-time private practice, I’ve run into tons of people who’ve told me “Oh, you mediate? I mediate too.” Everyone believes they mediate in some form in their families and workplaces. And they do.

Stephen Covey, perhaps best known for the bestselling The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, used to conduct a powerful demonstration in his speeches and workshops. I saw him do it this way:
He showed the audience a large glass bowl, a pitcher of sand, and a container of rocks. The bowl represents our time and energy on any given day. The rocks represent the important work we need to do, the work that has the power to transform our lives and our practices. The sand represents the urgent–and often unimportant–matters we attend to day to day, like going to meetings, returning email, running errands. And blogging, if you don’t play your cards right.
