Firefox Is My Browser of Choice

August 18, 2006 ·

You may use Internet Explorer by default because it came pre-loaded on your computer. If that’s the case, I recommend you give Firefox a try for a few weeks. It’s considered to be safer than IE because fewer hackers want to take down Mozilla than want to take down giant Microsoft. It’s easy to use, high-performing, customizable (more on this below), and well documented. There are built in protections against pop-ups, spyware and viruses, and you can import your bookmarks from your current browser.

Get Firefox!Firefox also features Integrated Search, which offers a pre-loaded Google, Yahoo, Amazon, eBay, Answers.com, and Creative Commons search box that sits elegantly on your toolbar. And if you haven’t yet discovered tabbed browsing, you’re in for a treat.

If you’d like to take Firefox out for a test run, it’s free for the download (just click the logo at left) and is super simple to install. You don’t have to remove IE from your computer; Firefox will ask if you’d like it to be your default browser, so say yes for your trial-run period.

Another treat about Firefox is that you can change its look with free themes and functionality with free plugins and extensions. My favorite add-ons include Tab Clicking Options, Colorful Tabs, ForecastFox, Scrapbook, and IE Tab.

Do you use Firefox? If so, are there add-ons you love and can recommend? Do tell me about them in a comment below!
