Tech in the mediation room: colorado divorce resolutions

0

tech in mediation roomA while back I profiled Colorado Center for Divorce Mediation in my article, Technology in the Mediation Room: Innovation from Colorado Divorce Mediators.

The Center’s Lawrence King recently wrote to update me on their latest technology investments and innovations, including a switch from desktop workstations to laptops that also dock in the mediation rooms, dual monitors, and upgrades to more sophisticated software. I remember when I used to sniff at dual monitors as overkill…until I started using them and realized how much they help my efficiency.

You can read the details at Denver Divorce Mediators Update Technology to Continue Innovation of the Family and Divorce Mediation Process. It’s worth a visit to their site, which is well designed, easily navigable, and offers client and potential clients easy-to-find and useful resources.

In his note to me, Lawrence shared these comments about their tech upgrades:

Multi-monitors are the single greatest bang for the buck money most mediators will spend (two $200 Dell monitors will provide huge productivity gains at a fraction of the cost of a larger panel. I actually recommend 17″ monitors; the combined 34″ of screen is about all you can comfortably use).

Docking mobile workstations allow the mediator to move from desk-side (drafting and daily work) to client-side (the mediation table) and is a great approach to configuring a mediation practice’s hardware, in our view.

Most importantly, we find a wonderful rich advantage to our clients’ experience because of our inclusion of these tools in our value proposition. Our work commences with a PowerPoint presentation that really comforts clients as it educates them regarding the divorce process. We continue then in our process in real-time to examine collaboratively the mediable issues using software applications and web resources. Although we don’t overly promote it, we do have many, many wonderful clients who are drawn to our commitment to the latest in technology and we do include information about our continued innovation in this regard with special updates to our website.

Thanks for the update, Lawrence, and the information about ways technology attracts and benefits clients.

Do you use technology in innovative ways in your mediations or office? I’d love to hear about it.
